Approach:
My approach to counseling is collaborative, person-centered, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I believe meaningful change begins with a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust, empathy, authenticity, and respect. I strive to create a supportive environment where clients feel understood, valued, and empowered to explore their experiences, challenges, and goals.
I take a strengths-based and values-centered approach, believing each person already possesses the resources needed for growth and healing, even when those strengths feel harder to access during times of stress or transition. My role is to help clients reconnect with those strengths and align their actions with what matters most to them. I incorporate therapeutic challenges and direct feedback when helpful, balancing validation with accountability to support meaningful change. Drawing from Person-Centered Therapy, CBT, ACT, and DBT-informed approaches, I integrate interventions such as cognitive restructuring, mindfulness, psychoeducation, emotional regulation skills, values exploration, and goal setting tailored to each client’s needs.
As a former collegiate athlete, I am especially passionate about working with athletes navigating performance anxiety, injury recovery, identity outside of sport, confidence concerns, and life transitions. I also support clients in developing routines and mental skills that enhance both performance and overall well-being.
Whether working with athletes or non-athletes, my goal is to help clients build resilience, increase self-awareness, develop effective coping strategies, and move toward a life aligned with their values, strengths, and aspirations.
Bio:
Kinsey has a range of training and clinical experiences focused on supporting adolescents, young adults, and athletes navigating mental health concerns, life transitions, and performance-related challenges. Her clinical interests include sport and performance psychology, identity development, anxiety and mood concerns, stress and burnout, and helping clients build resilience and effective coping skills. Kinsey enjoys creating a supportive space where clients feel safe to bring all parts of themselves into the counseling process, including their identities beyond sport, achievement, or performance.
Kinsey grew up a three-sport athlete and competed on a national travel team for softball, which sparked her passion for sport and performance psychology. She went on to play softball at Transylvania University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She later returned home to complete her Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling at Indiana University Kokomo, where she completed her practicum and internship experiences through Indiana University Kokomo’s Counseling and Psychological Services.
